YCIC (youth coding innovation club) has focused on youth coding and innovation activities for many years, we brought multiple youth activities to our community every year, and this year, we like to give the kickstarter a try.

And the proposed project is Make/100 (check out this article for more detailed information about Make/100), we like to collect the idea, and officially start a kickstarter project (project due date is 1/30/2022).

First of all, let us introduce a little bit of Kickstarter (

What is kickstarter?

Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects. Everything from film, games, and music to art, design, and technology. Kickstarter is full of ambitious, innovative, and imaginative projects that are brought to life through the direct support of others.

How does it work?

Every project creator sets their project’s funding goal and deadline. If people like the project, they can pledge money to make it happen. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers’ credit cards are charged when time expires. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. If the project falls short of its funding goal, no one is charged.

If a project is successfully funded, Kickstarter applies a 5% fee to the funds collected.

Do we see commercial product out of kickstarter?

Yes, actually, mBot, one of the Makeblock most popular products, raised more than $25,000 USD in its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in 2015, since then, sold for more than 8 million unit global wide, and has been used as the MakeX starter robotics competition every year.

What is the largest funded project on Kickstarter platform?

Although most of the kickstarter project start as the small project, but it can be quite big. In March 2015, Pebble’s second smartwatch project completed its crowdfunding and publicity run with 20.34 billion dollars raised in Kickstarter pre-order funding, becoming the most successful Kickstarter project as of July 2021.

What is the kickstarter project looks like?

Let us use one Make/100 project as example.

( )

It includes couple of sections.

  1. Campaign, tell your story, and clearly explain the risks. For story, we need to make sure that it covers enough information about the project, what we can deliver to the backer (who pay for the end product).

2. FAQ, this section can further explain the project with Q&A

3. Update, update of the project

4. Comments, comments of the project

5. Community, community around this project

If you have any idea of Make/100, please use this project as template, and create a draft, send to, subject (Make100), we are looking forward to see your excellent ideas soon, remember that the project deadline is 1/30/2022.

Together, we can create some great project, may change the world a little bit.
